The Office of the State Auditor has recently completed procedures used for the sole purpose of assisting Carbon County in addressing multiple concerns.
The Office of the State Auditor reviewed cash balances in the Municipal Service Fund for Dec. 2016, reviewed general budgetary and accounting practices, and also interviewed certain elected officials and employees. After completing the procedures, the Office of State Auditor responded with a report sent to the Carbon County Commissioners, dated Dec. 1, 2017. At a recent Dec. 1 meeting that was held in regards to consideration, review and adoption of the tentative 2018 budget, Carbon County Commissioner Jae Potter announced that a response was received from the State Auditor after working with the County Auditor and Commissioners.
“We have received a letter from the State Auditor and have given us a letter of no findings and suggestions for review,” said Potter. The three-day official visit was made prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Another public hearing is scheduled for Dec. 13 to receive public comments regarding amendments to the 2017 budget, and the 2018 proposed budget. It will also be in conjunction with the public hearing on the proposed property tax levy fund increases.
Interested citizens are encouraged to attend, and will be give an opportunity to speak in front of the Carbon County Commissioners. Those who are unable to attend will have access to the live vidoe stream at koalitv.net. Final approval of the budget is set to be made on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017.
