The Carbon Dinos opened up Region 14 play with a 50-40 win over the Juab Wasps, snapping a five-game losing skid in the process Wednesday night at home.
Capturing an early lead, the Dinos methodically kept their distance from the Wasps in Wednesday’s victory. The biggest point differential came in the first quarter as Carbon won the first eight minutes 15-8.
Ryan Gagon delivered an outstanding performance in the win, scoring 17 points, while grabbing eight rebounds. Derek Hillam recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. Jordan Vasquez leveled out the offensive production with nine points.
Jackson Rowley was the lone Juab player to reach double-figures, scoring a team best 15 points. Kayleb Squire contributed eight and Raiden Gould scored six.
Despite the recent struggles, Carbon produced one of their most impressive outings of the season. The win improves the 2-6 overall on the season.
With region play off and rolling the Dinos will have an opportunity to sweep a week of league action when they return to the court Friday against Providence Hall. Start time for the home contest is scheduled for 7:00 p.m..
