It really doesn’t seem like Christmas time because residents in the Castle Country area have yet to experience the first snow storm. That is all about to change soon because December 21 marks the first day of winter and the forecast is showing that snow will be on our doorstep very soon.

“Good old Carbon County, we are going to wake up one day and we’ll have snow for sure, that’s going to happen and you need to make sure you have your vehicles off the streets. So, that the snow plows can come along and plow snow without being hindered,” said Sheriff Jeff Wood. “You know it’s the right thing to do, not to hinder the snow plows and even your garbage cans and things like that. On your garbage day have your can out for the garbage truck to come get it, but then get it back out of the way.” Having to work in snowy conditions can make it difficult for workers to do their jobs, so citizens need to do their part when it comes to their property responsibilities.

Last winter brought a huge amount of snow and there were PSAs that were shared over the radio about safety concerns due to the weather conditions. The big concern was for homeowners to keep walkways and sidewalks clear for postal workers, as well as, lending a hand to clear away snow around fire hydrants in the neighborhood so that they are easily accessible.

Christmas is a great time to enjoy with family and friends, maybe take some time off work but that is not the case for law enforcement. “Keep in mind your local law enforcement team works 24 hours, seven days a week. They will be working for this holiday. If you need them, call them, they will be happy to come around but keep them in your thoughts because they are out there while everyone else is home,” said Wood. This is a perfect time of year to remember those who serve us selflessly day in and day out.

Everyone at the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and be safe during your celebrations.
