The Emery Spartans will enter the Christmas Break with plenty of momentum after defeating the Grantsville Cowboys 76-67 Wednesday night in Grantsville.

The three-point shot continued to fall for the Spartans as Cade Brazier and Tyler Butler combined for nine makes from deep in the win. Holding a slim five point lead at the break, the Spartans outscored the Cowboys 24-14 in the third quarter to ease to the team’s fourth consecutive win of the season.

Butler posted a team-best 25 points, including 12 from deep, as he continued his early season success from the floor. Brazier finished with 20, while Brax Jensen and Easton Gordon finished with eight a piece.

Entering winners of two straight and six of the first eight games of the season, Grantsville struggled to keep pace with Emery’s high tempo offense. Despite the shooting struggles from deep, Brady Arbon posted a game best 30 points to lead the Cowboys. Kevin Roberts helped push the offense with 17, and Ammon Bartley scored eight.

Wednesday’s win moves Emery to 6-2 overall on the season as the team will take a nine-day break from action. The Spartans will next return to the court on Friday, Dec. 29 on the road against the Union Cougars. Union is currently at the top of Region 14 with a perfect 3-0 league record.
