The Price City Municipal Officials that were elected were sworn in at a ceremony that took place at noon on Tuesday inside the council chambers. There were many citizens, friends and family members that witnessed the newly elected Mayor Michael Kourianos take the Oath of Office. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with the city’s new mayor to discuss his thoughts and plans he has as he begins to lead the city.

“It’s still kind of a dream to me or it’s not real, I mean everyone is saying enjoy this moment and I’m like is this real? I’m having to pinch myself,” said Mayor Kourianos. “But it’s something that I’m really passionate about and want to make a change, so, I’m happy about winning the election and that process.” During the primary and general election, the mayor always showed top numbers in the percentage of votes.

Kourianos often used the phrase “I believe in people” throughout his campaign. He explains what that means, “I think it’s good karma. If you put your trust in people, it comes back to you. I look at Price, I look at the people, I see good people in our community that want to succeed and that’s the main thing I want to orchestrate is success.”  He is looking forward to working with the city’s employees, so they can make all areas within the city’s corporation work successfully with members of the community.

First on the agenda is trying to bring the city’s main street alive. “Well, what I want to do is rejuvenate main street, I want to see places that can offer different services and people feel good about going down on main street. We need to think outside the box, how we’re going to rejuvenate,” stated Mayor Kourianos. A few of the ideas that he is tossing around are giving incentives to new business that come in to fill the empty buildings, as well as, making some cosmetic changes to the area to make it more inviting.

Mayor Kourianos is going to lead by extending an open-door policy to his employees and all members of the community. It’s important to him that people feel comfortable in speaking with him about their issues and concerns regarding the community.

Citizens who see Mayor Kourianos around town, be sure to congratulate and wish him luck on his newly appointed duties. If you don’t know him, he welcomes introductions – so take the time to introduce yourself.
