The Emery Lady Spartans suffered a 49-39 loss to the Richfield Wildcats, their first setback of the season, in the Region 15 opener Tuesday night in Richfield.
Entering the opener 10-0, the Lady Spartans had difficulty scoring for the first time this season as they were held to just 11 first half point. Faced with a 15-point deficit entering the second half, Emery’s offensive production picked up, but it was too little, too late.
Megan Jensen was the lone Spartan to finish in double-figures, ending with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Lainee Jensen was held to just seven points, while Kinlee and Kacelynn Toomer combined to score nine.
Emma Jones scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Wildcats to their ninth consecutive win. Caitlyn Nabity and Madison Roberts both scored seven, and Abigail Woolsey finished with five.
Jones connected on six three-point tries, while Emery managed just one three-point make for the entire game. Perimeter shooting proved to be the difference as Richfield ended with six more makes overall.
Now faced with a 0-1 record in region play, the Lady Spartans will look to bounce back with another road contest Thursday against the South Sevier Rams. South Sevier also opened Region 15 action on Tuesday, and blasted through North Sanpete 52-18.
