The Emery Lady Spartans responded to their first loss of the season by defeating the South Sevier Rams 61-45 Thursday evening in Monroe.

Showing no signs of a hangover from Wednesday’s loss, Emery exploded out of the gate to open a 37-17 lead by the end of the first half. Despite a solid third quarter performance from South Sevier, the Lady Spartans used a 14-8 run in the final stanza to comfortably record the win.

Kinlee Toomer posted a game-high 19 points, 15 of which came from the three-point line, to lead the Lady Spartans to their first region win of the season. Megan Jensen finished with 13, while Bailey Huggard and Lainee Jensen scored 12.

As a team Emery connected on 24 field goals, but struggled to get to the charity stripe, where they finished just 5-6. South Sevier finished with 16 field goals, while ending 9-15 at the foul line.

Kaylie Jensen pushed the Rams offense with a team best 16 points. Mattie Blackburn contributed 14, and Kamree Peterson finished with six.

Thursday’s win moves Emery to 1-1 in Region 15 play, and 11-1 overall. The Spartans will end a three-game road trip with a visit to North Sanpete on Tuesday.
