The Carbon Lady Dinos were unable to overcome a slow start against the Union Cougars, falling 42-39 in Region 14 play Tuesday evening in Roosevelt.

Trailing 15-7 at the end of the first period, Carbon managed to slowly chip away at the deficit by winning the next two quarters. Locked in a 31-30 contest going into the fourth quarter, the Lady Dinos were outscored 11-9 over the final eight minutes.

Kelsey Sorenson posted a game-high 15 points as Carbon slipped to 3-2 in league play. Jodi Noyes finished with 13, and Abbie Saccomanno ended with six.

The difference in the defensive battle proved to be production at the three-point, and free three line. Carbon finished just 2-7 from the charity stripe, while Union finished 5-13. The Cougars also converted five from deep, compared to Carbon’s three.

Ellison Weaver led Union with 13 points, while Kennedy Ross scored all 12 of her points from the three-point line. Reagan Anderson scored seven and Carly Blake notched six.

Currently sitting third in the division standings, the Lady Dinos will return to the court on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at home against American Leadership Academy.
