The Carbon and Emery County USU-Extension Offices will be offering a ten week of Master Gardener Class beginning on January 25 till March 29. The Thursday evening classes will be held from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm with a few to be held on Saturdays and will alternate between the offices in Carbon and Emery Counties.
“If you’re new to the game or if you’re a seasoned vet and you just want to come and you know, really get into the weeds – so to say for some of this, it’s open to all and it’s really a great program no matter what your level,” said Agriculture Assistant Professor, Steve Price. “We have a lot of extension specialists coming to do the programing. These guys are the best at what they do, they truly are experts. I mean these guys wrote the book on what they do, it’s pretty amazing that they are going to come to our community to talk to us.” In years past the Master Gardener Class was instructed only by Agriculture Assistants from the Carbon and Emery office. This year will start a new concept by hosting specialists from the state and regional offices, plus KSL Greenhouse co-host, Taun Beddes.
There will be several subjects covered during this session that will cater to our unique climate, soil and other important factors to consider for successful growing in our area. “This year we will be covering topics like tree fruit production, landscape design, pruning, turf and lawn care vegetable production, plant propagation techniques, flowers, small fruit and trees and shrubs,” explained Price. The program is a great opportunity to network with others in the area who love to garden.
The cost to participate is $50.00 for one year, $80.00 for two years or if you are returning student looking for a refresher course it is $25.00. The registration fee will include Utah master Gardener Manual, handouts and refreshments. To register please call the Emery County office at (435) 381-2381 or Carbon County office at (435) 636-3233.
This is a ten course, two-year program; next year’s course will cover the science part of plants.
