The Carbon Dinos suffered a heartbreaking 41-39 loss to the Juab Wasps in Region 14 play Wednesday night on the road.
Tied at 39 in the final seconds of regulation, Juab’s Jackson Rowley knocked down a five-foot shot to give the Wasps the win. The final full possession was the deciding factor in a game that went back and forth throughout the entire second half.
Ryan Gagon helped push the Carbon offense with a game-high 16 points. Colin Lewis knocked down three shots from deep on his way to 11 points. Ryker Smith and Ty Anderson combined to score nine.
Trailing 15-10 at the end of the first quarter, the Dinos outscored Juab 9-4 in the second stanza. The Wasps managed to outpoint Carbon 13-11 in the third, setting up the dramatic fourth quarter ending.
Max Gurney posted 13 points for the Wasps, helping his team earn a season series split with the Dinos. Rowley finished with nine points, while Alex White and Kayleb Squire contributed six a piece.
Wednesday’s loss puts Carbon at 3-4 in region play, placing them fifth in the seven team division. With only four games remaining in the regular season, the Dinos are still two games better than Maeser Prep and American Leadership for the final two playoff spots awarded to the region.
Carbon will participate in the final road tilt of the regular season on Friday with a trip to Salt Lake City for a meeting with Providence Hall.
