Southeastern Utah Medical Reserve Corp is looking for volunteers who are willing to work together for the betterment of the community. The SEUMRC covers three counties – Carbon, Emery and Grand. Individuals willing to work with the organization will be a part of a national network of volunteers to strengthen public health, improve emergency response capabilities and assist during natural disasters or disease outbreak emergencies.
“The Medical Reserve Corp is a group of medical professionals and others who can in times of a disaster, help hospitals, emergency medical systems, public health, pretty much when they are overwhelmed,” said Health Department Emergency Manager, Robby Donaldson. “We’re always looking for trained technical people, especially those in the medical field. However, you’ll understand that behind every doctor there is a good team of nurses and clerks and physicians, P.A.s that help them along and we need all of them.” Other front-line and public health volunteers can range from dentists, pharmacists and mental health practitioners.
Being a part of the SEUMRC organization is a great way to give back to the community. “Anyone can join, as long they pass a background check, they are good to go. One of the great things about this volunteer project is you decide how much you want to volunteer. It’s a great opportunity to get continuing education credit for those EMTs, nurses and doctors.” This would be a perfect fit for anyone who is retired with previous medical experience.
Non-medical skilled individuals can play an important role too, they can be a part of the SEUMRC as Support Staff Services. This could include religious officials, fundraising professionals, security and traffic control, supply and logistic managers and workers; basically, where ever assistance is needed during a critical time.
