The 2018 Utah Cheer Club Sport State Cheer Competition was held at Salt Lake Community College Saturday morning, featuring cheer squads from 2A to 6A high schools, as well as junior high and middle schools.
The Carbon Dinos enjoyed a successful day, finishing second in two categories, including fight song, and song/pom. The Emery Spartans logged a third place finish in the timeout dance category.
Mont Harmon also delivered solid performances throughout the day, finishing second in both the show cheer and timeout dance categories.
This competition was produced by RC Competes and directed by Lori Rupp and Kellie Chamberlain, both have served as competition directors for UHSAA in the sport of Drill. The Utah Cheer Team Coaches Association works in conjunction with the directors to create, rules, and score sheets.
The Utah Cheer Coach of the Year Award was awarded to 2A Coach Shanna Fails from Beaver High School, 3A Coach Trish Anderson from Carbon High School, 4A Coach Debi Lee from Orem High School, 5A Coach Ron Yates from Highland High School and 6A Coach Ulbby Dyson from Copper Hills High School.
