Despite entering the fourth quarter tied 54-54, the Emery Spartans could not keep pace with the Manti Templars in a 76-71 loss Friday night at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.

Playing from behind the entire first half, the Spartans captured a slight third quarter lead. The back-and-forth action continued throughout the remainder of the game, which ultimately favored the Templars. The uptempo contest featured a combined 25 makes from the three-point line.

Kyson Stilson posted a team best 24 points, while Brax Jensen contributed 17. Cade Brazier ended with 13, and senior Easton Gordon finished with nine. As a team Emery converted 12 shots from deep, but struggled to find consistency in the fourth quarter.

Manti was led by standout Matt Nelson’s 31 point performance, which included six makes from beyond the arc. Adam Huff contributed 14 off of the bench, while Tanner Rasmussen scored ten.

Friday’s loss dips Emery’s Region 15 record to 4-6, placing them fourth in the division. Currently holding a one game lead over San Juan and North Sanpete, the Spartans will enter the final week of the regular season in control of their playoff destiny.

Emery will participate in the final home game of the regular season on Wednesday against the Grand Red Devils, who are currently second in the region at 8-3. The final game of the regular season will take place Friday on the road against the San Juan Broncos.
