The Emery Lady Spartans improved to 10-1 in Region 15 play with a dominating 93-32 victory over the Grand Red Devils Tuesday night in Moab.
Wasting little time developing a cushion, the Spartans outscored Grand 52-13 in the first half. The overpowering performance allowed head coach Lynn Tuttle to use his entire bench, leading to 14 players scoring at least one point.
Kinlee Toomer recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 assists in limited minutes. Senior Lainee Jensen scored all 15 of her points from the three-point line, while center Megan Jensen eased her way to 14 points.
Statistically Emery was near perfection, recording 29 assists on 39 made field goals. The stellar production carried over defensively as the team combined for 21 steals.
Mercedes Zunich was one of the few bright spots for Grand, reaching double-figures with an 11-point performance. As a team the Red Devils converted just eight field goals, but finished 15-24 at the free throw line.
Tuesday’s win moves Emery to 20-1 overall, and 10-1 in Region 15 play. Entering the final game of the regular season, the Spartans remain tied with Richfield for first in the division.
The regular season will come to a close on Thursday as Emery welcomes in San Juan for the second meeting of the season. The Spartans cruised to a 71-35 win in Blanding back on Jan. 18.
