The community is invited to attend the Nine Mile Canyon Excavation Celebration taking place on Saturday, February 24 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The gathering will be held in the Prehistoric Museum located at 55 East Main Street in Price.

Nine Mile Canyon is world-renowned for its archaeological assets, yet still home to many mysteries. The Bureau of Land Management saw an opportunity to engage the public in a unique excavation opportunity of an intriguing Fremont pit structure. Over 70 students, leaders, and community members worked alongside professional archaeologists over the course of six weekends during the fall of 2017. This winter, student volunteers continue to assist with the documentation of artifacts. Now, is the time to share what was found and learned with the public.

This free event will feature light refreshments, presentations from a team of experts, special displays and a chance to explore the museum’s Nine Mile Canyon exhibits. Nine Mile aficionados and newcomers alike are encouraged to attend to hear about the latest archaeological happenings in the canyon.

The event is being co-hosted by Utah Statewide Archaeological Society-Castle Valley Chapter.
