The Emery Lady Spartans made quick work of the Providence Hall Patriots, rolling to an 86-24 win Friday night in the opening round of the 3A State Tournament at Wasatch High School in Heber.

Wasting little time developing a massive lead, Emery opened a 23-2 lead by the end of the opening quarter. The lead expanded to 45-12 at the end of the first half, making the final two quarters a mere formality.

Megan Jensen scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Emery in the blowout win. Senior Lainee Jensen finished with 16 points, nine of which came from deep. Kacelynn Toomer contributed 15, and Kinlee Toomer ended with 12.

Saturday’s win marks the 12th straight for Emery, and improves the Lady Spartans to 22-1 overall. The win over Providence Hall marks the second in as many tries against Region 14 opponents this season.

Isabel Page scored a team-high nine points to pace the pedestrian Providence Hall offense. Jesirae Berthoud scored six, and Rachel Weiss ended with four.

Friday’s win moves Emery into the quarterfinals of the 3A State Championship Tournament, setting up an intriguing match-up with the Carbon Lady Dinos on Thursday. Carbon defeated Summit Academy 52-36 to advance Friday night.
