The Carbon Dinos are set to hold tryouts for the upcoming baseball season on Monday, Feb. 26 at the Helper American Legion Baseball Field. Tryouts are scheduled to run through Wednesday of the same week.
Entering the first season in the latest six-classification realignment, the Dinos will begin the season on the road against Springville on Tuesday, March 6. The first home game is scheduled for March 15 against Grand.
“We’ll play a game less than a week after tryouts are completed,” said Cisneros. “We don’t have a lot of time, and obviously weather is a big deal here in this area. We have a lot of stuff that works against us, which is why the summer program is so important.”
Carbon will share Region 14 with Union, Juab, American Leadership, Delta and Providence Hall.
“Juab, Union, Delta and other schools always put a competitive team on the field,” said Cisneros. “Those teams are going to make this a very difficult region. I worry more about our team than any other team, because if we play to our level I know we can compete with anyone.”
In order to prepare for the highly competitive region slate, the Dinos will have a highly difficult non-region schedule. The month of March will feature games against Mountain View, Provo, Salem Hills and Desert Hills.
“We play a lot of big schools in our pre-season schedule, which I’m excited about,” Cisneros said. “We’re going to probably take some lumps, but I’m hoping it prepares us for our region schedule. We can’t win a state championship in our first week, but we can work towards it.”
Open gym has taken place at the high school over the past two months, working around the heavy basketball schedule. For more information on tryouts, or the upcoming season, contact Cisneros by phone at (435) 820-8379.
