Three Emery High School senior student-athletes have been recognized for their excellence in the classroom during the 2017-18 winter season with a selection to the Academic All-State team in their respective sport by Utah High School Activities Association and the Deseret News.
Swimmer Allen Durrant joins nine other members on the boy’s Academic All-State team as the group of ten combined to produce a 3.985 grade-point-average. Durrant helped the Spartans capture their third State Swimming Championship in four years.
Swimmer Chelsea Olsen was one of ten individuals to be named to the girl’s Academic All-State team, who combined to produce a 3.977 accumulative grade-point-average. Olsen was a part of the girl’s swim team that finished third overall at the State Championship Meet in early February.
Basketball player Lainee Jensen is one of 13 total girls named to the Basketball Academic All-State team. The lone senior on this year’s squad, Jensen leads the heavily talented basketball team in three-point makes and has posted an average of 13 points per game.
The UHSAA has presented the Academic All-State Award for close to three decades. Individuals are selected for the award on the basis of their athletic ability and academic proficiency.
