The Emery County Community Theater would like to invite the entire community to their upcoming performance of Once Upon A Mattress. The venue for the production will be inside the Emery High School Auditorium beginning March 15 through March 17 at 7:00 pm nightly, with two showings on March 17 with matinee at 2:00 pm. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5.00 per person or $20.00 per family.
“It’s a musical and it’s the story of the princess and the pea and this takes that story and it is funny and it’s a little bizarre and we are having so much fun and its fun music and its fun kids,” said Director, Sarah Wolford. “Just come see it. It’s a fun, funny show and there’s quite a few surprises that you wouldn’t expect to see in a show set in medieval times.” The production is carried out through a cast of 38 individuals within the community ranging from teens to adults.
The story is about a young woman whose royal status is determined by her physically feeling the pea under 20 mattresses. “The bed that she will climb up is going to be at least eight feet and our set is a two-story castle on stage; so, people are 15-20 feet in the air” explained Wolford. The original story of the Princess and the Pea is a literary fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson.
The Emery County Community Theater does something extra special for the youth in the community. “Every summer we’re doing Youth Summer Theatre, where the kids can come and take two to three days of classes about acting, sets and costumes. Then we put together a show for the kids and about two weeks then they perform it,” stated Wolford. This year the youth summer theater production will get the opportunity to present their show during Orangeville Days.
