Staying safe and warm during severe weather

A major winter storm is moving through Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming with high winds and heavy snow expected through the weekend. Rocky Mountain Power is deploying additional crews, with approximately 100 linemen and resources on standby ready to support our customers with power restoration from anticipated weather-related
outages.

We urge customers and the public to stay safe during this storm. Here are some precautions to remember during severe weather:

* Clear all snow and ice from your vehicle before you start out.

* Secure tarps, patio furniture, trampolines and other objects that can become airborne in strong winds.

* Start out slowly when driving so you can check how your wipers, steering and brakes are performing.

* Accelerate, turn and brake slowly and gently.

* Watch out for bridges, ramps and overpasses, which freeze more quickly and defrost more slowly than surface roads.

* Keep a safe distance. Give yourself more room than usual to stop or swerve if the vehicle in front of you encounters an unexpected problem.

* Never leave a space heater unattended. Remember, operating a standard portable heater, while convenient, could increase your bill. Just five hours a day can increase your bill an extra $30 a month.
