The Emery Lady Spartans golf team delivered a second place performance in the second region meet of the season Wednesday afternoon at Cove View Golf Course in Richfield.
Richfield once again dominated the field cruising to a first place finish with a final team score of 177. But, it was Emery that improved by 28 strokes from the first meet to grab second place with a 218. Grand, South Sevier and Manti rounded out the top five, while San Juan and North Sanpete completed the field of seven.
“These girls are working hard, they are very coach-able and improving daily,” said head coach Tom Hansen. “We are now solidly in second place in region after graduating five golfers from the state championship team last season.”
Emery’s lone senior Lainee Jensen again led the way with a team low 47. Raegan Sitterud and Angie Nielsen both recorded a 55, and Kayla Winn finished with a 61. Sydney Alton’s 63 and Macie Nielsen’s 72 did not count toward the team’s final score.
Now two meets deep the Lady Spartans currently hold an eleven-shot lead over the Grand Red Devils for second place. Richfield has already flexed their dominance with a 114 shot lead for first place.
The region season will continue on Thursday, March 22 at the Skyline Golf Course in Fairview, the home course of the North Sanpete Hawks.
