The Reach Up Suicide Prevention Group is a newly established support group in Emery County. They are hosting their first community event, Out of Darkness Suicide Awareness Walk on March 22 at 6:00 pm at the Huntington Lake State Park.

“Reach Up is a Suicide Prevention Group that is in Emery County. Well, we meet every Tuesday night, 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Senior Citizen Center in Castle Dale and anyone is welcomed,” stated one of the Event Organizers, Emily Huntington. She and her husband became a part of the group when her friends, Ann Larsen and Patsy Stoddard decided there was a need in the community for a support group. The group’s founders have received direction as to how to establish and run the group from an organization up north.

The feedback that the group has received from the public has been very accepting. “So far people have been receptive and have been really excited, like the Senior Citizen Center luckily is donating the space because they believe that the community needs something like this, just to help,” said Huntington. The center is located at 150 East 100 North in Castle Dale and there are no age restrictions to attend the meetings.

The Out of Darkness Suicide Awareness Walk is free and a wonderful way for community members to learn more about what the support group. Participants will be able to enjoy a free dinner at the event, plus a limited number of bracelets will be handed out to participants that say, “Irreplaceable.”
