There may be many citizens in the county that may not understand or know how the Sheriff’s Department is structured. Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood took time on his weekly update to explain the best way to contact his department and mentioned the annual Carbon County Search and Rescue Demolition Derby.

“I’ve had a lot of people lately, seem to call and say we can never get a hold of anyone at the Sheriff’s Office, but there are calling after hours and the deputies don’t answer the phone in the front. So, if you need to get a hold of a deputy call dispatch or you can call our jail; those are the ways to get a hold of us the best,” stated Wood. “The good thing about calling dispatch is if you live in the jurisdiction that has city police and you’re looking for an officer, they will send the closest one to you. So, you’ll have a better response if you call dispatch, generally.” If it’s a non-emergency the number citizens should call is 637-0890. If it’s an emergency, citizens should always call 9-1-1 immediately.

Spectators at the Price City St. Patrick Day Parade may have noticed a few derby cars showing off to get community members excited for the annual Carbon County Search and Rescue Demolition Derby set to take place on August 11. “So, it’s going to be a big show this year, we’re really excited about it. The minivans are a huge success and they’re amazing. I can’t believe that you can’t kill a minivan, two of those minivans in the parade where last year’s minivans,” stated Wood. This year there will be several different classes of vehicles, mini cars, 80s or newer, mini trucks, full-size trucks and old iron steel class. The way things have gone in recent years there may be a class that has more vehicles which will leave limited spots, so drivers are strongly encouraged to get signed up as soon as possible. To register visit Tire King located at 535 East Main Street in Price.

Many citizens have not have heard yet but it looks like the county will continue to be patrolled for another four-year term under the direction of Sheriff Jeff Wood. At the deadline for Declaration of Candidacy on March 15, there were no other registered candidates for Carbon County Sheriff. Any community members that run into the sheriff should be sure to congratulate him and wish him the best for another successful term.
