The Carbon Dinos were unable to crack the scoreboard in a 9-0 loss to the 5A Provo Bulldogs Monday afternoon in Provo.

Playing against an opponent from a higher classification for the sixth time this season, Carbon had several opportunities to plate runs. Out hitting Provo 7-6, Carbon left nine runners stranded on base.

Trailing 1-0 in a highly competitive contest, the Dinos allowed seven total runs between the third and fourth innings. Provo added one more in the bottom of the sixth to increase its cushion entering the final frame.

Senior Nate Olson provided the only multiple hit performance for Carbon finishing 2-3 at the plate. Both Zac Bradley and Cody Lowe finished 1-2 with a double, accounting for the team’s two extra base hits.

Jaxon Leonard allowed six hits and three earned runs, while striking out two from the mound as he faced 26 batters in five innings. Adrien Sanchez also saw work on the hill, allowing no-hits and striking out one batter in one inning of action.

Monday’s loss moves Carbon to 6-5 on the season, and 2-4 against higher classification opponents. The Dinos remain 1-0 in Region 14 play.

With Spring Break right around the corner Carbon will continue non-region play on Tuesday with a home game against Salem Hills. The short week will come to close Wednesday against Emery in the lone meeting of the season.
