The Emery Spartans stopped a three-game region losing streak with a 10-6 victory over the San Juan Broncos Tuesday afternoon in Blanding.
Scoring three runs in the top of the first frame, the Spartans never trailed in the highly important region tilt. The win moves Emery to 2-3 in league play, while San Juan remains winless at 0-3.
Colten Willson recorded a season-best five RBI’s as he finished 1-3 at the plate, while also drawing a walk. Koda Alton ended 1-4 with two RBI’s and a double, logging the team’s only extra base hit.
Easton Gordon, Kyson Stilson, Rance Jensen and Brax Jensen all finished with two hits. As a team Emery and San Juan were even with 11 hits a piece.
Gordon was awarded the win on the mound allowing just two earned runs off of ten hits, while striking out seven. Jace Collard recorded the final out in a relief effort.
The Spartans will return to the field on Wednesday with a road tilt against the Carbon Dinos in Helper. The meeting with Carbon will be the only between the two varsity squads this season.
Emery will resume region play on Friday, finishing the season set with San Juan. Friday’s game will take place in Castle Dale and is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m..
