Emery High School sophomore Braiden Ivie continued to dazzle as the Spartans continued the track and field season at the Copper Hills Invitational Saturday afternoon in West Jordan.

Competing against nine other schools the Spartans finished fifth overall against steep competition on the boy’s side of the track. The Lady Spartans ended in a seventh place tie by scoring points in five separate events.

Pegged as one of the top two runners in the state, Ivie defeated Herriman senior James Dunyon in the 100 meters with a time of 11.13 seconds. Ivie followed up his performance in the 100 meters with a win in the 200 meters, this time defeating Copper Hills senior Garret Stone with a time of 22.83.

Emery freshman Trevon Brazier delivered a stellar overall performance finishing top five in three different events. Brazier ended fourth overall in the 110 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles, while also finishing fifth in the high jump.

Marqueis Giroux added four more points to the Spartans final total after ending the discus with a fifth place finish. Alexis Dalton recorded a sixth place finish in the same event on the girl’s side.

Bethany Justice led the Lady Spartans with a third place performance in the 400 meters, gathering a time of 1:03.68. Justice also logged a sixth place finish in the 100 meters with a final time of 13.71 seconds.

Junior Tiana Jensen delivered a third place finish in the 100 meters, finishing in 17.74 seconds. JoJo Peterson and Shyler Griffin added three points to Emery’s total with a seventh and eighth place nod in the javelin.

The Spartans will continue the track and field season with a trip to Manti on Friday.
