The Desert Thunder Raceway opened the gates for the very first time in the 2018 season Friday and Saturday night on Airport Road.
Showcasing seven different classes throughout the two nights of races, the weekend was highlighted by the International Motor Contest Association Modifieds. Saturday’s event also featured Trucks, Dwarfs and Hobby Stocks.
Zane Devilbiss captured the checkered flag both Friday and Saturday in the IMCA Modified class. Friday Devilbiss topped local driver Wyatt Howard, while edging out Christian Johnson on Saturday.
Dillon Thomas marked the only other repeat winner over the weekend, taking first both evenings in the 305 class. Ed Henderson’s bid for two wins fell short in the Stock Cars Saturday night with a second place finish to Dillon Lawrence.
With the first weekend of races now complete the Desert Thunder Raceway will once again host a weekend event on April 27 and 28. The four weekend schedule will continue throughout the summer, wrapping up in September with the Castle Country Clash.
