The Emery Spartans defeated the North Sanpete Hawks 6-4 Friday evening in Mount Pleasant, earning a season-series split with the victory.

Tied 3-3 entering the seventh inning, the Spartans scored three runs to take a comfortable lead into the bottom of the final frame. Koda Alton recorded the final three outs in a relief effort to help secure the win.

Jesse Barnett logged three RBIs in a 2-4 plate performance to help push the Emery offense. Kyson Stilson ended 2-3 with two RBIs and a triple. Alton also recorded two hits in a 2-4 effort.

Easton Gordon pitched six solid innings, striking out seven and allowing just three hits and one earned run to lead the Spartans. Alton was awarded the win after allowing one earned run off of two hits in a relief appearance.

Friday’s win improves Emery to 4-6 in Region 15 play, placing the Spartans in fourth place. Currently a half game ahead of North Sanpete, the Spartans will begin the final stretch of the regular season against the Richfield Wildcats.

With only three games remaining in the regular season, the Spartans will host the Wildcats Tuesday afternoon.

Friday will mark the final home contest of the season against North Sevier, followed by the regular season finale Tuesday, May 1 on the road against Richfield.
