The Carbon Dinos completed the regular season with a 15-4 loss to the Desert Hills Thunder in a non-region affair Tuesday afternoon in Helper.

A four-run second inning and a six-run third inning proved to be the difference as Desert Hills walked away with a lopsided win. After clinching the Region 14 championship on Friday with a win over Juab, the Dinos played host to the 4A Thunder in a tuneup game for Saturday’s state tournament.

Zac Bradley was pegged with the loss on the mound as he allowed four hits and four earned runs in two innings. Triton Abeyta surrendered six hits and six earned runs in two innings of relief work. Nate Olson and Jadon Robertson each pitched one inning in the six frame contest.

Anthony Jones was one of three Dinos to record a hit, finishing 1-1 with an RBI. Olson ended 1-2 with one RBI and a walk. Cody Lowe recorded the other hit in a 1-3 performance.

Tuesday’s loss gives Carbon a final overall record of 16-7, with five of the seven losses coming against teams in higher classifications. The Dinos will now turn their attention to the 3A State Championship Tournament, which will begin Saturday in Helper.

Entering as the No. 1 seed from Region 14 the Dinos will host Grand, Morgan and Emery for the first two rounds. The day will begin with Carbon playing Emery at 10:00 a.m.. Grand and Morgan will take the field immediately after.

If Carbon manages to defeat Emery they will move on to face the winner of Grand and Morgan 5:30 p.m.. A loss would place the Dinos in an elimination game at 3:00.
