The Emery Lady Spartans wrapped up the golf regular season with a second place finish in the Region 15 finale Monday afternoon at the Carbon Country Club Golf Course.

Finishing with a team score of 409, the Lady Spartans delivered their best performance of the year despite the cold and windy conditions. Richfield again dominated the field with a final score of 346. South Sevier finished in third with a 433, followed by Grand’s 440. Manti, San Juan and North Sanpete completed the field of seven.

“These girls have been working hard to improve all season,” said head coach Tom Hansen. “They are a very coach-able group and they get along great as a team. It has been a joy to witness the improvement and skills they have developed.”

Senior Lainee Jensen led the team with a low score of 90. Sydney Alton finished with a 103, while Angie Nielson and Teah Lowery completed the team scores by each shooting 108. Raegan Sitterud’s 115 and Kayla Winn’s 123 did not count towards the final score.

Jensen’s 90 places her sixth overall in the individual standings for the region season. Succeeding off of the course as well, Jensen has been named to the Academic All State team, marking the region’s only selection to the squad.

Built with youth after claiming a state championship in 2017, the Lady Spartans continued to improve throughout the season. The team started with an 18 hole cumulative score of 490 in the first meet, and ended with a 409 on Monday. The heavy improvement shows an 81-shot differential.

With the region tournament now complete Emery will turn their focus to the State Tournament on May 8 and 9 at Cove View in Richfield. The Lady Spartans will enter as the No. 2 seed from Region 15.
