As the spring sports season reaches the home stretch, eight Carbon High School student-athletes are receiving recognition for excellence inside the classroom.
Makara Morgan, Mikelle Monson and Shannon Baker are three of 15 girls selected to the track and field Academic All-State team. The combined GPA for those selected was a perfect 4.00.
The spring selection marks the third time this year that each girl has received the honor. Morgan was also selected to the Academic All-State team this past fall in both cross country and Soccer. Monson qualified for cross country in the fall and drill in the winter. Baker was also named to cross country in the fall and swimming in the winter.
Cali Fossat is one of 10 softball players to receive the award. The group accumulated a combined 3.996 GPA. Fossat has also been a standout on the softball field, leading the team in multiple offensive categories.
Soccer player Luke Hansen is one of 10 players to earn the academic honor. The group of boys combined for a 3.995 GPA.
For the second time during his senior campaign Nate Olson has earned recognition for outstanding work in the classroom. After getting an Academic All-State nod in football this past fall, Olson was one of 10 athletes selected to the 3A baseball academic squad. The group’s accumulated a combined 3.991 GPA.
The Utah High School Activities Association in conjunction with the Deseret News present the Academic-All State award each year to students on the basis of their athletic ability and academic proficiency.
