Unable to maintain a mid-inning lead the Emery Spartans suffered a season ending 12-10 loss to the Union Cougars Thursday afternoon at Salt Lake Community College.

Despite holding a 7-5 lead entering the fifth inning, the Spartans were unable to hold off a late Union push. The Cougars plated seven runs in their final two out bats. Emery added three runs in the top of the seventh, but ultimately fell two runs short of extending the game.

Koda Alton allowed five hits, surrendered four earned runs and fanned five batters in four innings of work from the hill. Easton Gordon and Cade Brazier each pitched one inning, both finishing under the 60 pitch count which would have allowed both to throw again in the tournament.

Senior Jared Snow led the offense with two RBIs as he finished 2-4 with a single and double. Kyson Stilson and Jesse Barnett both registered two hits. Brax Jensen, Rance Jensen and Stilson all recorded one RBI.

Thursday’s loss ends a season full of ups and downs for a young Emery team that featured just three seniors, Gordon, Snow and Colton Willson.

This past season was also the first for manager Rob Smith, who happened to be the third manager in as many season’s for the program.

The Spartans accumulated a complete season record of 12-13, including a 4-8 mark in region play. Stay tuned to Castle Country Radio for a complete season recap in the coming days.
