Junior Derek Hillam won the 300-meter hurdles and the long jump to lead the Carbon Dinos at the track and field 3A State Championship Friday and Saturday at Brigham Young University in Provo.

Competing against the top qualifying athletes throughout the classification, Hillam ran the 300-meter hurdles in 39.64 seconds, 0.17 better than Juab’s Macray Stevens.

Hillam later added a second state championship with a 6.54 leap in the long jump. Carbon added even more points in the event as Carson Frame finished fifth and Carter Fausett ended in seventh.

As a team the Carbon boys finished eighth overall with a final total of 39 points. Grand eased its way to a team state title with 115.5 points, topping second place Delta by 28 points. Morgan, Richfield and Juab rounded out the top five in the field of 15 teams.

The boy’s 4X400 team consisting of Hillam, Frame, Fausett, Jared Spendlove, James Bryner and David Hobbs finished third with a final time of 3:31.08.

Frame, Fausett, Hillam, Jaylon Dennis, Michael Bera and Makade Bradley united for a fifth place finish in 4X100.

Individually Frame finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.55.

Fausett provided more points for the Carbon boy’s team with an eighth place nod in the 400-meters, finishing with a time of 51.91.

The Carbon Lady Dinos also finished eighth overall after accumulating 42 total points for the event. Juab comfortably claimed the overall state champions after grabbing 107.6 points. Delta, Grand, Morgan and Richfield rounded out the top as 16 teams competed overall.

Regan Hanson logged a third place finish in the 3200 meters with an ending time of 11:43.65. Hanson also finished third in the 1600-meters after finishing in 5:26.82.

Shannon Baker posted a third place finish in the 400 meters, ending with a time of 59.89. Baker also recorded points in the 200 meters, finishing seventh with a time of 27.00.

Makenna Blanc ended third in the 800-meters, recording a personal best time of 2:22.64.

Freshman Emma Christensen finished fourth in the high jump by recording a 1.50.

Marianna Molinar logged the last of the individual points for Carbon by ending eighth in the javelin.

Blanc, Baker, Paiten Thomas, Madelyn Christensen, Annamarie Cartwright and Isabeau Miller finished third in the 4X400 with a final time of 4:10.14.
