Carbon County resident and County employee have completed the Spring Glen Cemetery information kiosk just in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Tom Matthews, a resident of Carbon County, approached the Carbon County GIS Department with a public/ private partnership proposal. The Spring Glen Cemetery is the final resting place to many Carbon County residents but some of the information is hard to locate. Matthews has acted as a local source of information for individuals who come to visit the cemetery, but he was concerned that he was not always available when a visitor needed information.

Together, Carbon County GIS Technician, Mellissa Lasslo and Matthews put together all the information they could find on the occupants of the cemetery. They designed and created a self serve style kiosk to assist those seeking information. The oldest plot known in the cemetery is home to Harmon Zufelt, laid to rest in 1916.

This year, nearby youth came to the rescue to help spring clean the cemetery. These projects demonstrate that volunteers and government can work together to make the community a better place. If you plan to visit the cemetery and need information, please feel free to use the new kiosk.
