The Utah State Fire Fighter Association Convention will be held in Carbon County this year, organizers are expecting firefighters from around the state to attend this event on June 13 through the 16.

“We’re fortunate to get the convention here in Price. We’re going to have probably 400 firefighters coming in from all over the state. So, would be a good opportunity for residents of Price to put their best foot forward, they’re going to enjoy what Price has to offer,” said Fire Chief Paul Bedont. This will fill bring a huge boost to the local economy, expose visitors to Carbon County’s beautiful scenery, allow them to sample local restaurants and explore our area so they will come back to visit in the future.

A fun aspect of being a host for the convention is the opportunity to have a parade with all the Utah State fire trucks. “Part of the convention is we have a parade and that’s going to be Thursday. It’s going to run on Main Street from about 400 East to about 200 West. But we’ll have a bunch of firefighters and firefighters love to have kids around so it might be a good opportunity to bring your family out. I’m sure there will be a lot of candy being thrown out,” stated Chief Bedont. Parents are urged to bring earplugs and keep a watchful eye on their children during the parade to keep them from darting in front of a fire truck. After the parade spectators can head on over to the Price City Peace Gardens after the parade to enjoy an evening of Culture Connection.

The three-day convention will consist of numerous meetings, training and workshops with evening hours filled with activities for firefighters to attend such as tours of Nine Mile Canyon and UTV rides.

Chief Bedont finished with a fire safety tip for the community, “This year is kind of scaring me a little bit. We have a condition that are ripe for another big fire season same as we had at Seely. We have a lot of fuel on the ground, we have low humidity, high temperatures, moderate to high winds and that’s a recipe for wildland fire disaster. It’s time to use some common sense when it comes time to burning.” Just this past weekend the fire department was called out to two fires caused by burning. Residents need to remember that there is no open burn allowed in city limits, this applies to Helper, Price and Wellington.

Individuals who have any general questions may contact one the five fire departments within the county.
