The Helper Merchants scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past Dixie 6-5 Friday afternoon at USU Eastern baseball field in Price.
Dixie broke a lengthy 1-1 tie with a four run fifth inning, seemingly taking control of the pitchers duel that took place for the first four frames. After failing to respond in the bottom of the fifth, Helper broke through in the sixth.
Zac Bradley finished 2-3 at the plate and launched two solo home runs to lead Helper in the victory. Anthony Jones recorded a double and two RBIs. Ty Anderson finished 3-4 with a triple, one RBI and two stolen bases.
Triton Abeyta recorded the win on the hill after pitching one frame of relief work. Cody Lowe pitched six innings, allowing five earned runs and seven hits, while also striking out four batters.
Friday’s win allows Helper to remain at the top of the Southern Division standings with a perfect 3-0 record. The Merchants are currently two games up in the loss column on second place Springville and St. George.
Helper will next participate in double-header action Tuesday against St. George and Dixie at Richfield High School. The first game will begin at 5:00, with the second following immediately after.
