Primary Election candidates running for various state and county positions in Carbon and Emery counties brought out many voters to the polls on Tuesday. The numbers are in but are unofficial until the canvas counting is determined on July 3. Those individuals winning in the primary will move on to General Elections on November 6

The Republican U.S. Senate seat, which is being vacated by retiring Senator Orrin Hatch, shows Mitt Romney blasting through with 71.71 percent, with his contender Mike Kennedy bringing in 28.29 percent. Romney will now go on to face Democratic opponent, Jenny Wilson.

The seat for Congressional District 3 put Representative John Curtis on top with 74.35 percent blowing away his opponent Christopher N. Herrod who got 25.65 percent of the votes. General Election will feature Curtis against Democrat James Courage Singer.

Republican candidates for State House 69, which covers counties Carbon, Duchesne, Emery and Grand shows 60.99 percent of the votes went to Christine F. Watkins, who now will face Democratic Tim Glenn in the General Election. Watkins Primary Election opponent Jae Potter had 39.01 percent of the votes.

Candidates vying for the Carbon County Clerk/Auditor seat put Seth Marsing on top with 42.49 percent and will move him on to the General Election against the Democratic candidate, Sulika Laulu Merrell. The remaining votes came in with Glenna Etzel showing 33.40 percent and David B. Petty closing out the votes at 24.10 percent.

The four hopefuls for the Carbon County Commission seat show Larry G. Jensen bringing in almost half of the votes at 46.92 percent, which puts him up to face the Democratic nominee, Ed Chavez and Unaffiliated candidate, Cheryl Lupo. The remaining primary voting numbers were neck and neck with Kendra Seeley at 26.86 percent, Ryan Murray with 21.85 percent and closing out the voting with 4.37 percent is Jay Darton Daugherty.

Carbon County Commission/Surveyor was a blow out with Tony Martines bringing in 74.32 percent, followed by Jake Mellor with 25.68 percent. Martines moves on to face John Jones who came in with 55.56 percent to beat his opponent Joe Christmas who had 44.44 percent. Independent American candidate, Mel Coonrod will accompany Martines, Jones in the General Elections.

Polling numbers for Emery County show Greg Funk with over half of the votes for the County Sheriff seat at 63.86 percent, with his challenger Keaton Cowley at 36.14 percent. Funk will now move on against Independent Candidate, John Barnett.

Brenda Tuttle will go into General Election unopposed bringing in 61.79 percent of the primary votes, leaving contender Russell Larsen with 38.21 percent.

Emery County School Board 4 was a close race with Marie Guymon Johnson at 38.08 percent, followed by Nicky Nielson with 35.11 percent and rounding out the group is Mike Justice with 26.81 percent.

Although there was no need for primary voting, individuals facing one another in the General Election for the Emery County Attorney seat will be Republican Mike Olsen and Independent Dave Blackwell.

All voters are reminded that primary election results are unofficial, final canvas results will be brought in and verified on July 3.
