Wildfire season is in full effect around the state and recently hit close to home for our neighbors in Emery County. The Trail Mountain Fire started on June 4 as a controlled burn which quickly got out of control due to the weather and dry conditions. This influenced officials to establish an Increased-Interagency-Restriction on June 15 for all unincorporated private and all state lands within Carbon, Emery, Grand and San Juan counties.
Carbon County Sheriff has made the decision implement a Limited-Waiver-of-Fire-Restrictions which he signed today. “If you live in those areas and you want to launch some fireworks that you have purchased, you can go to the fairgrounds,” he announced. “Anything legal will be allowed there it’s going to be in the dirt parking lot area; so, you know again use good judgment if there are people around.” The Fireworks-Designated-Area will be the same location as last year.
Residents inside city limits of Price, Helper, Wellington and East Carbon have no firework restrictions at this time. City folks are strongly urged to use caution, have a water source near, be respectful of their neighbors and their pets. While citizens may enjoy the fireworks, neighbors may not appreciate the noise, smoke or debris.
Fireworks can only be discharged on July 3 and July 5 at 11:00 am to 11:00 pm and on July 4 at 11:00 am to 12:00 am. It’s also important to remember that if an individual causes a fire to ignite they could be criminally and civilly liable for suppression costs and damages, so make sure that the firework launch and fallout are in areas that are safe.
Any locals that would like to report firework violations are asked to call the non-emergency dispatch number of (435) 637-0890, as for any bodily injuries from fireworks or the start of a fire call 911 immediately.
