The Carbon Cal Ripken 12-year-old All-Stars moved to 3-0 at the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament with a dominating 15-3 win over Northern Utah’s Herriman Thursday afternoon in Long Beach, Calif.
Fresh off of a bye on Wednesday, Carbon wasted little time developing a massive lead by scoring seven runs in the first inning. The offense continued to fire on all cylinders as the game ended after the fourth inning due to the mercy rule.
Ridge Nelson earned the win on the mound after pitching three solid innings, allowing only one earned run. Riley Davis pitched the final inning, striking out two batters in the relief appearance.
Maizen Pritchard led a solid team performance at the plate with three RBIs. Nelson, Davis and Skylar Madsen all brought in two runs.
With Thursday’s win Carbon is now the lone unbeaten team in Pool A, holding a one-game lead over Long Beach and Visalia in the loss column.
Carbon will wrap up pool play with a highly important contest against Visalia Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. MNT time. A win would clinch the No. 1 seed for Saturday’s single elimination tournament, while a loss could result in a three-way tie for the two spots up for grabs.
