The Southeastern Utah Football Officials Association is in need of referees for the upcoming high school and middle school seasons, which officially begin on Aug. 17.

The first high school action of the year will kick off Friday, Aug. 11 as schools from around the state host their annual team scrimmage games. The following week will begin the 10 week high school season. Middle school will follow shortly after.

The process to become a high school referee is relatively simple. Each Monday new and old members of the association meet at the Carbon County School District Office building at 6:00 p.m..

At each meeting the veteran officials help the newer members with the rules and tactics. In order to become a certified official, each member must pass an open book test.

While most of the games will take place locally, the group also plans to make trips to Duchesne, Moab and Blanding. Games will range from Wednesday through Saturday and a schedule to fit each referee’s schedule is developed.

For more information on becoming a referee for the 2018 season, call at (435) 820-0237. Meetings for the officials are held every Monday beginning at 6:00 PM.
