The Division of Wildlife Resources is always hosting various clinics to the community to either introduce or familiarize them with an outdoor activity. They will be hosting a free Fly-Fishing Introduction Clinic on Saturday, September 29 at 8:30 am at the Division’s Southeast Regional Office at 310 North Carbonville Road.
“As with all clinics this is a free clinic that we offer, this is one that we started offering last year and had a lot of demand for it. So, we’re really excited to bring back another fly-fishing clinic this year,” stated Conservation Outreach Manager, Morgan Jacobsen. The workshop is opened to all skill level of anglers whether this is an introduction to a new activity or just brushing up on the basics practices of fly fishing.
There are so many styles and techniques that are to be used so the DWR experts will present the basics in a classroom setting. Jacobsen explains further, “Everything from the gear you need, choosing a good fly rod that’s ideal for what you’re fishing for, choosing flies that work well. That one of those nuances that takes some practice, some trial and error.” There will be casting instruction and lure presentation shared with the participants.
After the morning instruction is complete there will be a chance for angles to take the skills they learned and put them to the test. “There’s a classroom portion but then there is an opportunity to go over to the Carbon County Community Pond afterward and actually,” stated Jacobsen. There will be fly rods and tackle provided for participants who may not have their own equipment. Any anglers over the age of 12-years-old will be required to purchase a fishing license at any DWR office or online at www.wildlife.utah.gov
