Marilyn Pappas Scorzato passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at the Heirloom Inn in Price, UT.

She was born in Aguilar, Colorado on September 26, 1929 to Andrew and Jennie (Tittle) Pappas.

She was a lifelong resident of Kenilworth, Utah and graduated from Carbon High School. Her brothers, Luke and John, introduced her to her spouse of seventy years, Henry Scorzato. Although working conditions in Carbon County forced them to leave on several occasions, Henry and Marilyn always called Kenilworth home and raised their only child, Tonya, next to close family and friends.

Marilyn loved to socialize and entertain. Whether they were wearing out the dance floors or helping at the Episcopal Church, you could always count on Marilyn to cook or bake something delicious. Her recipes always started with “one cube butter;” that’s probably why everything tasted so good! Playing bridge with her friends was the highlight of most weeks.

Marilyn loved her grandkids and great grandchildren more than life itself. She lit up anytime one of them dropped in for a sandwich, her famous macaroni and cheese, or a piece of pie. “YiaYia,” as she was known to the great-grandkids, always had cookies or something sweet. She was their biggest fan and was present whenever possible at their dance recitals or games.

Marilyn belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star Naomi Chapter #13, Daughters of the Nile (Shiners), and Lady Elks BPOE 1550. She was an active member of the Ascension St. Matthews Episcopalian Church. Marilyn was a staunch advocate for the town of Kenilworth and was instrumental in reviving Kenilworth Days. People often jokingly referred to her as the “Mayor of Kenilworth.” She worked tirelessly throughout the years with other community members to make improvements to their community.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Lucille Phister, John Pappas, and Luke Pappas. She is survived by her husband, Henry, daughter Tonya (Art) Bruno, grandchildren Scott (Anita) Bruno and Cori
(Adam) Callahan, great grandchildren Gianna Bruno, Cole and Cade Callahan, sisters-in-law Evelyn Pappas and Doris Pappas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Ascensions St. Matthews (522 Homestead Blvd, Price, UT). The family will be available an hour before the services to greet friends and family. Burial will follow at the Price City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ascension St. Matthews or Shiner’s Hospitals for Children- Salt Lake City in Marilyn’s memory. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Marilyn online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net

The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to the loving staff of the Heirloom Inn, especially Robin and Stephanie, and Angie Fausett at Rocky Mountain Home Care and Hospice.
