A dominating first half was enough for the Emery Lady Spartans soccer squad to cruise past the North Sanpete Hawks 5-2 in the Region 15 opener Tuesday evening in Castle Dale.
Holding a 3-0 lead at the end of the first half, the two teams played to a 2-2 over the final period of action. The moves Emery to 5-1 overall and marks the team’s fourth consecutive win.
Alexis Winter recorded her second hat trick of the season, and 10th goal overall on the season. Morgan Hurdsman and Teah Lowry also scored one goal a piece in the win.
Defensively the Lady Spartans were again on point, blanking the Hawks for the first half. Entering Tuesday’s game the team had recorded three straight shutouts with Kiri Cook at goalie.
Emery will continue the Region 15 portion of the schedule with another home game on Thursday, this time against the Grand Red Devils.
