The C.A.R.E. Coalition which is an acronym for Carbon Addition Reduction and Elimination is hosting an activity for school-age children on Saturday, September 8 called Lift Off – Launch into an Exciting Career. This will take place on the USU-Eastern campus Jennifer Leavitt Student Center from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and is free. The coalition is a non-profit organization that is committed to providing a safe environment that empowers youth to be healthy, successful and compassionate members of the community.

“The C.A.R.E. Coalition has been around for a couple of years and the primary goal of the C.A.R.E. Coalition is we’re trying to get the youth in our community to prevent them from becoming involved in drugs and alcohol at an early age,” said Parent Volunteer, Kobi Prettyman. The organization is able to find the needs of the community through various surveys completed by students, parents, community members, and leaders. They take those surveys to work with said individuals or entities to develop some activities to peak children’s interest in a positive way.

The organization is able to work towards their goal with numerous volunteers willing to help the youth within the community. Volunteers are put together in a group, given a topic to focus on, generate ideas and activities they can offer children and their families. “Our part of the C.A.R.E. Coalition is the Youth Work Group and we were focusing on a low commitment to school. So, we planned an activity to try to help encourage kids to make a connection between fun and learning, how that could impact their future and what skills they might need for a career,” said Prettyman. The event will allow children to pick three activities from the list to enjoy for one hour each. They will be able to choose water balloon obstacle course which could tie into the military; crime science investigation with NERF guns, all aspects of filmmaking, medical discoveries, chemistry experiments and animal science.

C.A.R.E. Coalition would like to thank the sponsors for helping make the Lift Off – Launch into an Exciting Career event available to the children in the community. This year the sponsors USU-Eastern, Scott Henrie with Criminal Justice Department, Gagon Family Medicine and Carbon High FFA.
