The Carbon Dinos exchanged blows with the Duchesne Eagles in an hard fought 21-12 loss Friday evening at home, falling to 0-3 in the process.

Introducing a brand new offense, the pistol-veer, the Dinos had success moving the football throughout the contest. Determined to eat up clock, Duchesne held control offensively in the second half to earn the win.

“There are a few things we need to clean up (offensively) and we are going to be better,” said head coach Josh Huntsman. “Once we pull the pitch read and make a cleaner pitch we think we are going to score a lot of touchdowns by getting around the edge.”

Carbon quarterback Noah Jones finished with two touchdown passes through the air; the first to Jaylon Dennis, the second to Ryker Larsen. The Dinos also maintained a steady rushing attack with fullback Colin Lewis.

The back and forth affair was competitive throughout, but two Carbon turnovers proved to be the difference.

“The one on the punt we have to tell our guys to get away,” said Huntsman on the team’s turnovers. “I thought our kids played hard and were in the right spots all night. Our players played really well, one of the best since I’ve been here.”

While the Dinos provided a different look on offensive, the team stayed consistent defensively. Despite the loss the 21 points allowed was the fewest of the young season for Carbon.

“We stuck with our defense and stayed with what we were comfortable with. We just came up on the short end of this one,” Huntsman said.

Carbon will return to the football field Friday with a lengthy road trip to Ogden for the final non-region tilt of the season. In three games this season the 4A Tigers have accumulated a record of 2-1, earning wins over Judge Memorial and Enterprise.

Live coverage of Friday’s game will begin at 6:30 pm on KRPX 95.3 The Peak with the Landon’s Diesel Service Pre-Game Show. Kick-off will follow shortly after at 7:00.
