Katie Marshall’s late second half goal was enough to lift the Carbon Lady Dinos past the Union Cougars Thursday afternoon at home.
The second meeting of the season between the two schools proved to be a competitive one throughout as both teams struggled offensively. The second half goal was enough to earn the region win and snap a two game losing skid in the process.
“It was a hard game for us, Union was a really good team they did a really good job,” said Carbon head coach Cynthia Lancaster. “It wasn’t one of our best games, but we’re glad we were able to get the win and we know we have a lot to work on before our next game. Were really happy with the effort that our girls gave.”
Along with scoring the game winning goal, Marshall also shared goalkeeping duties with Ronnie Williams. Together the two combined to record the team’s third shutout of the season and first since August 23.
With five games remaining in the regular season the Lady Dinos are now tied with Juab for second place in Region 14 at 5-2.
Carbon will next travel on the road to face Providence Hall for the second and final meeting of the season. The first matchup worked in Carbon’s favor as the team recorded a 1-0 win at home.
