The Carbon Dinos opened 3A North region play with a 35-0 setback to the Union Cougars in Roosevelt Friday night.
Despite a spirited effort defensively, the Dinos were unable to match the pace of Union’s spread offense. Trailing 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, Carbon allowed 14 points in each of the next two periods of play.
Carbon tested the Union secondary throughout the contest, but found minimal success. Most of the offensive production was produced by the backfield’s three headed monster; Colin Lewis, Ryker Larsen and Ridic Migliori.
Defensively Chris Sunter recorded one interception near midfield to give the Dinos a slight boost. While the offense was unable to capitalize on the takeaway, the secondary proved to by one of the bright spots of the night.
Entering the region opener without a win in four tries, the Dinos had shown massive improvements over the past two weeks on both sides of the ball.
Now 0-1 in 3A North play, the Dinos will return home to play host to the Emery Spartans. The two teams played in a highly entertaining tilt last season, which ended with an Emery game-winning field goal.
