PRICE – Utah State Eastern soccer teams spent time giving back to the community with cleaning up the new city soccer fields on Monday.

Nearly 100 USU Eastern men’s and women’s soccer players got on their hands and knees to pull weeds at the new Carbon County youth soccer fields at the Carbon County Fairgrounds.

USU Eastern Head Soccer Coach Ammon Bennett wanted his teams to give back to the community and Carbon Recreation Assistant Director Scott Merrell was happy to allow his teams to do so.

“I think its great for them to see this facility. They are great help to us and what they are capable of doing in two hours would take our department 400 or 500 hours to do which is a big help to us,” said Merrell.

The athletes spent a few hours pulling mainly foxtail and swamp grass weeds on Monday to help prepare the fields to be sprayed.

Many of the student-athletes from USU Eastern were happy to help and be engaged with the community on the new fields.

“It is important to do community service because they are coming to support us and our games. So we need to come and help them with whatever they need help with,” said USU Eastern freshman Sarah Reddish.

USU Eastern soccer has home games this upcoming Saturday at the USU Eastern soccer field north of campus.

The women’s game begins at 11 a.m. with the men’s game soon after.
