The Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments is excited to announce Castle Country Community Transport which is a transit service to low-income, youth, elderly and disable individuals. This is a newly established program in the area so they need suitable drivers.
“We have received funds and also a van, the van was donated to us from Four Corners Community Behavioral Health, as well as a shuttle, but that was donated to us from Active Re-Entry,” said VITA Regional Coordinator, Duane Baker. “So we are wanting to utilize those, both of those and get them out on the road and start helping our community get to where they want to go.” The organization has partnered up with Four Corners and Easter Seals which has allowed thus far to have a driver but in order to expand this service to accommodate the needs of the community.
“We need people to volunteer and drive our van and our shuttle. Both of them just require just a regular driver’s license because we are 15 passengers and less they don’t require any kind of commercial driver’s license or anything,” said Baker. Any individuals over the age of 18 years old are eligible, clean driving record and will be required to pass a background check. Volunteers can be moms who have time on their hands with the kids in school, a college student with free time between classes and businesses can participate by allowing employees to donate their time on behave of the company.
Another program in need of volunteers is the VITA Program which is an acronym for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. This program is partnered with the IRS in training and certifying volunteers to be able to file returns for low to moderate income families and individuals during the tax season.
