Carbon High School once again holds possession of the traveling Eastern Utah Cup after topping Union and Uintah Wednesday afternoon at the Roosevelt Golf Course.
Ending with a team score of 340, one-stroke separated the Dinos from second place Union. Uintah finished last in the field of three with a final score of 350.
Carson Martines delivered a stellar performance by firing an event low 74. Brady Gagon, who shot a team best 71 last year, and Kaden Slavenksy finished with an 88. Nick Olson recorded the fourth score with a 90.
Union was led by TeJay Harper’s final score of 79. Carter Arnold was second with an 82, followed by Cody Garner and Alex Jaramillo’s 90.
Kade Bailey was the top golfer for the Uintah Utes, finishing with a 77. Colten Sorensen was second at 91, followed by Dallen Smuin and Ethan Young with a 92.
The win for Carbon means the team will regain control of the traveling trophy a year after losing it to Uintah. Dating back to 2014 the two schools have alternated wins in the tournament. The Eastern Utah Cup is an annual event that the three schools have turned into a tradition.
The Dinos will now shift their focus to the upcoming state championship on Oct. 1 and 2 in Taylorsville at Meadow Brook. After claiming the Region 14 championship in dominating fashion, the Dinos are looking to build off of last year’s top three finish.
